Swiss accordionist Werner Thomas composed the song, originally known as “The Duck Dance,” in 1957.

In 1981, Henry Hadaway produced a version of the song for the novelty group The Tweets, which was released as “The Birdie Song. It became popular in the UK and reached number two on the singles chart.
