Released in 1975, Mud’s rendition of the song, originally a 1957 hit by Buddy Holly & The Crickets, reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart.
Mud’s version featured pounding drums, smooth harmonies, and a nostalgic yet energetic performance.
It revitalised the song, becoming a 70s pop culture staple while still honouring its 50s roots.
